Britain is currently host to less than 1% of refugees, yet we would love to provide a welcoming space here in Marlow.
We are already supporting several people in the local area either directly or through other established charities having been inspired by the Wycombe Refugee Partnership (WRP) and how they are supporting families to move to, and make new homes in Wycombe.
Currently, 20 families have been helped and several volunteers from Marlow have played a crucial part in supporting these families as “befrienders”, tutors, and by providing donations.
Beyond WRP, we are also working with another charity, Refuaid, to support access to language tuition, education, finance and meaningful employment for refugees. So far, we are assisting financially with language scholarships at the Marlow Language Centre and supporting this with one-to-one informal conversation.
This remains however an area we can improve upon so we are looking for mentors who can provide advice and access to their networks to refugees with the same professional background.
Lastly, a recent collaboration has emerged with Sanctuary Hosting with the aim of connecting those with a spare room in their home to vulnerable refugees and asylum seekers in need of accommodation.
