Refugees To Marlow

Marlow language class

Since March 2022 Marlow residents, and others in the local area, have hosted around 75 Ukrainian families. MRA are working in partnership with Marlow Ukraine Collective, the group who directly support hosts and their Ukrainian guests, to provide funding for their needs.

As six-month hosting arrangements come to an end, new hosts for Ukrainian guests, as well as supportive landlords, for those seeking to move into independent accommodation are sought in and around Marlow, as well as elsewhere in the country. No matter where you live, if you have the space then please do consider it! If you aren’t sure, why not hear from those who have experienced hosting first hand by watching the video below or clicking this link: Homes For Ukraine – Rebecca and Mariia

In addition to this, we have supported several people in the local area either directly or through other established charities such as Wycombe Refugee Partnership (WRP) which supports families moving to, and making new homes in High Wycombe.

Over 20 families have been helped by WRP and several volunteers from Marlow have played a crucial part in supporting these families as “befrienders”, tutors, and by providing donations.

Beyond WRP, we have also worked with another charity, Refuaid, to support access to language tuition, education, finance and meaningful employment for refugees. In 2019 and 2020 we assisted financially several language scholarships at the Marlow Language Centre and supported this with one-to-one informal conversation.

This remains however an area we can improve upon so we are looking for mentors who can provide advice and access to their networks to refugees with the same professional background.
