Volunteer Stories
Jasmine grew up and went to school here in Marlow. She is co-founder of Samos Volunteers NGO, and has spent many months there on and off over the past 3 years.
In June 2018 she shared with us in Marlow her vision to start a Legal Centre in Samos to provide a base for volunteer lawyers to work from. A vision became a reality in August 2018 and MRA have supported the project from the beginning.
Although Jasmine is now working to complete the final stage of her training as a solicitor with Curzon Green Immigration and Human Rights Team, she continues to guide the mission and direction of Samos Volunteers.
An ex-Borlase pupil, Dom had recently finished a masters in Logistics at Cardiff when he approached us with an interest in volunteering to help with humanitarian aid for refugees.
We were able to introduce him to several possible volunteer groups across Europe and ultimately Dom settled on Collective Aid, assuming the role of Warehouse Manager in Calais.
Since then, Dom has undertaken two further volunteer assignments: in Chios, as Warehouse Coordinator, for Offene Arme, and more recently as Logistics Manager for Distribute Aid based in Belgrade.
After graduating from university, James had a burning desire to travel abroad and work with those that needed it the most.
This led him to Northern Greece and Second Tree, a scouts themed education program established to fill the gap left for older children and teenagers, often an overlooked group.
Despite only planning to be in Greece for 2 months, James ended up staying longer and returned for a second spell in 2020 to manage the Scout Program, supporting the 2,500 refugees through across their three programmes.
